An interview with Marga Dela Cruz of mapping visualization tool Mapline

For our next Tweepler interview we talk to Marga Dela Cruz about the Mapline mapping product.

Tweepler: How and when did Mapline get created?

Marga Dela Cruz: Brady Anderson, Mapline’s founder, worked for a large oil company where they performed a lot of data analysis. In one of his projects, he wanted to show the information on a map, but the process to plot the information on a map was way too hard! So… the idea was born to make mapping simple. And in January of 2012, Mapline was rolled as the easiest mapping solution on
the planet.

Tweepler: In a few sentences, what does Mapline and Draw Pad do?

Marga Dela Cruz: Mapline makes it easy to plot information on a map and then perform visual analysis. With a simple paste from Excel, businesses can see their locations on a map and find where to grow or how to target their marketing campaigns. Some companies also use Mapline to optimize their logistics and to build sales territories.

Tweepler:  Is it primarily for use with Excel data or can people paste any address/data into it? Is it integrated with Excel or a standalone product?

Marga Dela Cruz: Mapline enables users to easily paste their data from any spreadsheet into Mapline to plot the locations on a map within seconds. Although it operates completely separately from Excel, it is Excel-friendly in that you just copy and paste. Users can also place markers on a map without using Excel if they like.

Tweepler:  What are some of the best real-world uses you have seen for Mapline?

Marga Dela Cruz: Mapline is used in all types of industries, including education, pharmaceuticals, energy, retail, healthcare, and others. It is also used by many different functions within businesses such as sales, marketing, supply, and strategy. Here are some real-world uses for Mapline:

  • Identify growth opportunities by visualizing current business operations on a map, overlaying competitors, and then finding the best places to grow.
  • Reduce business risks by identifying where the most sales is coming from and then creating disaster recovery plans for those areas in case a disaster were to occur.
  • Optimize supply and logistics by evaluating the total costs of different suppliers and freight costs based on geographic locations.
  • Create sales territories and report on territory performance.

Tweepler:  How difficult is it to embed the maps created on to websites or PowerPoints?

Marga Dela Cruz: Mapline is the easiest mapping solution on the planet! You can embed maps on websites with a couple clicks. Or you can position your map however you want and add the screenshot image to a PowerPoint in seconds. We have prepared a demo video in youtube (http://youtu.be/W3PLjmXTayQ) so our subscribers can learn the easy steps of embedding maps.
